CSW69 Commission on the Status of Women Presentation

Our GWO May Branch Meeting was replaced with presentations from four GWO members who attended the recent CSW69 conference in New York. Presenters included Dr Shirley Gillett GWI Education, Dr Ioanna Katiforis former GWO Young Member Representative, Otila Osborne President and Phoebe Rose Osborne, Membership Representative. Important 'learnings' and 'key takeaways' were shared, along with international connections established, and the future direction 'revisioning' of CSW. GWO June Guest Speaker Dr Lisa Marriott

Dr Lisa Marriott is Professor of Taxation at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington, and Extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Lisa is a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand. She has previously worked in industry as a Financial Controller and Accountant in the private sector in the United Kingdom; and in the New Zealand public sector. For the past 15 years, Lisa has worked in academia. Lisa’s research is interdisciplinary covering disciplines including sociology, political science and criminology.

Her topic is: White- and blue-collar crime in Aotearoa

In this presentation, Lisa will share her research on white- and blue-collar crime in Aotearoa. She will provide data on the differences in how white- and blue-collar offenders are treated at the points of investigation, prosecution and sentencing. Lisa will also show the different resourcing attached to investigating and prosecuting white- and blue-collar crimes in Aotearoa.

GWO Presentations at Logan Park High School

President Otila Osborne and Youth Representative Phoebe Rose presented last week at Logan Park High School. We spoke about GWO and the valuable contributions that our organisation makes in the lives of women and the community. CSW69 highlights and key learnings were shared along with practical advice on goal setting and an introduction into tertiary education from a GWO Young Members' perspective.
